Training-of-Trainers Workshop successfully completed in MyanmarA five-day Training-of-Trainers (TOT) course for youth workers was held in Yangon, Myanmar from 17 to 21 September 2001, closing a three-year project on "Promoting HRD among youth in transitional and less advantaged countries." The TOT Course served as a follow-up project to the ESCAP HRD Course for Youth Development. The objective of the TOT was to train a pool of trainers in and from Myanmar, enabling them to conduct their own courses, and enhancing the capacity of government agencies and NGOs in organising and conducting training modules and events for youth. Topics covered by the TOT course included discussions on how adult learning differ from that of children; skills to conduct a Training Needs Assessment (TNA); designing training modules; effective communication and group dynamics. The last day of the course provided time for participants to think about how to apply the newly acquired training skills to their own work contexts. The teaching methodology used was highly participatory, including group work and presentations, which was well received by the participants. The course consisted of 35 participants, the majority women, from across Myanmar. This was the second time that a course for youth development was conducted by ESCAP in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare in Myanmar. Both courses were very well received both by the participants and the counterpart organisation. As a result of the success, the Department of Social Welfare will collaborate with ESCAP in 2002 on the new phase of the project on "Strengthening national HRD capabilities in poverty alleviation and conflict negotiation skills", currently implemented in five countries in the region.
