| ESCAP HRD AWARD The ESCAP HRD Award is presented every year in recognition of exemplary work in the field of human resources development. It is open to all those in the region who have undertaken practical research, training or other innovative work in HRD. Each year, the Award carries a different theme related to HRD. For 1998, the theme chosen for the Award was adult education. The Award carries a prize of US$ 30,000. The Non-Formal Education Department of Thailand has been proclaimed the winner of the 1998 Award. An independent Jury established the winner on 24 February, highlighting the important role of Government in mainstreaming non-formal adult education programmes in socio-economic development. The 1998 Award, which was open for applications until 15 December (1998), has received well over 100 applications.
