| CCA and EZE Fund New HRD Project for Youth
FROM ESCAP HRD NEWSLETTER NO.9 |
After many years of providing training for youth leaders and workers, a new project by ESCAP will go one step further. It will establish a series of ESCAP HRD Courses for Youth Development at the national and local levels. Since 1979, the World Council of Churches, and subsequently the Christian Conference of Asia (CCA) have supported a series of ESCAP training projects in the field of youth development. Hundreds of youth work personnel in the region have benefitted from the ESCAP training. The funding of this new project reaffirms the commitment of the Christian Conference of Asia as well as EZE to promoting HRD for youth in Asia and the Pacific. The new project will involve the participation of Cambodia, China, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal and Viet Nam. The objective of the project will be to enhance the capacity of national personnel, from both government agencies and NGOs, in the planning and delivery of skills development programmes for youth for economic self-reliance and constructive social participation. The first activity will be the development of a prototype training curriculum, based on a needs assessment survey, and taking into account the past training experience of ESCAP as well as new concepts and methodologies. The curriculum will then be adapted to respond to the specific needs of individual countries. The courses will focus on the following areas: regional and national perspectives on the youth situation; the role of youth organizations in development; income-generating skills for youth, including managerial and entrepreneurial skills for micro-level enterprises; leadership training for youth; and social and civic skills for youth. Follow-up support will be provided through technical assistance and seed money for local-level projects to be developed by the course participants. The curriculum to be developed will also be translated into national languages for further use by national institutes for training at the national and local levels. The curriculum will be a sustainable output of the project, which will be utilized by government agencies and NGOs beyond the life of the project. CLICK HERE FOR MORE STORIES FROM |
